Restoration in Saarland

The Saarland lies in the southwest of the Federal Republic of Germany. It borders on Rhineland-Palatinate, France and Luxembourg. In the smallest federal state (after the city states Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin) there are a number of important monuments: the Celtic and Roman excavations at the Upper Moselle and in the Bliesgau, the "Hunnenring" in Otzenhausen, the abbey church of the monastery Mauritiius in Tholey and the Ludwigskirche in Saarbrücken. The Völklinger Hütte has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.

The Modern Gallery of the Saarlandmuseum in Saarbrücken with its collection of expressionist paintings by German artists is the most important art collection. A special highlight of this part of the collection is the "Little Blue Horse" by Franz Marc. One focus of the collection is the ouevre of the artist Alexander Archipenko. More than 100 of his plaster models and many bronze castings are represented in the Saarbrücken collection.
