The main concern of the ÖRV is the preservation and conservation of cultural heritage while respecting its material, historical and artistic significance. The ÖRV stands for the recognition and implementation of an internationally valid quality standard in restoration and conservation. The competence profile of conservators is based on the recommendations of the European Conservators' Confederation (E.C.C.O.). In Austria, this standard is set by the two university training centers at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Conservators work at the interface of various scientific and artistic disciplines and bear a special responsibility for cultural assets towards society and posterity. This is why the ÖRV has been calling for measures to protect the profession in Austria ever since it was founded. Accordingly, only conservators who have qualified training are accepted into the association; constant professional exchange and continuous further training are a central concern of the association.
The ÖRV is a member of the European Confederation of Conservator-Restorers' Organizations E.C.C.O., based in Brussels.
